Golf Tip #18: Bunker Play

Once you have taken your grip, enter the bunker. Position the open clubface about five centimetres (two inches) above and behind the ball.

The ball will be opposite your left heel. Your hands will be in line with the front of the ball.

Set yourself with your feet and body aimed left of the target. The clubface should be facing to the right of the target.

Your path of the club when you swing should be parallel with the line of your feet (to the left of the target).

Wind up and swing, focussing on the entry point of the club in the sand. Make sure that you have a high follow through.

The purpose of this shot is to hit the sand, not the ball. The sand will lift the ball out of the bunker.
